अज़ हय आव पानॖ बालॖयार

तिफलॖ द्रावय म्योन लॊकॖचार

English Translation

I cradle (ललॖनोवुम) the longing (अमार) for you, close to my bosom (ल्वलि)

My dear old friend (from my youth) (बालॖयार) is here today

My childhood was full of innocent impishness (तिफलॖ)

वथरसॖ पोशॖ अम्बार

English Translation

My friend (girl) (वॆसिए), I feel the exuberance of my youth (चिकॖचाव)

My 'Maharaza' (groom) is here

I want to adorn (वथरसॖ) him with heaps of flowers (पोशॖ अम्बार)

My dear old friend (from my youth) (बालॖयार) is here today

चॉनी बॖ च़ॆय निश दूर

करॖ क्याह बॖ कॉशॖर कूर

म्यानि कनि छुय परवरदिगार

अज़ हय आव पानॖ बालॖयार

English Translation

I am yours (चॉनी बॖ), yet far away from you (च़ॆय निश दूर)

What am I to do, I am but a modest Kashmiri Girl

My God (परवरदिगार) is my advocate (म्यानि कनि)

What can the Gor (hindu priest) (गोर) or Pir (musalmaan priest) (पीर) do

You and me are destined to be together (कुन तकदीर)

You are the love of my youth (आदॖनुक यार)

Please see (दीदन वॖछ) my plight (हाल)

I have been waiting (प्रारान) for ages (यॅच़काल)

He has reduced me to fragments (पारॖ पार) (made me full of holes)

My dear old friend (from my youth) (बालॖयार) is here today


'Deedan' is a persian word for 'seeing'

कबील ह्यथ आव सालय

वुदॖ इसॖबन्द ज़ालय

ॲस्य हा चॉन्य ताब्यहदार

अज़ हय आव पानॖ बालॖयार

English Translation

He has come with his whole family (कबील)

Will burn 'Vudhe' (वुदॖ) and 'Isbandh' (इसॖबन्द) seeds

I am always obedient (ताब्यहदार) to you

My dear old friend (from my youth) (बालॖयार) is here today


[Vudhe Seeds: When a bridegroom or bride are about to set forth for the wedding (or on similar occasions) this seed is burnt before them with appropriate spells, in order to ward off the evil eye, demons, ghosts, or similar evils.

Isbandh Seeds: A species of the mustard seeds used for the same purpose as Vudhe]
